Research indicates that while certain bee behaviors within a colony can suppress an infection, viruses evolve to bypass the bees’ protective mechanisms in order to spread disease to other colonies. There is a "coevolutionary arms race" going on between pathogens and social organisms that requires ongoing study and research.
