Minimizing the Chances of Bear Damage To Your Apiary

Bears are a serious threat to beekeeping operations in many parts of Upstate New York.  This article highlights the various precautions that beekeepers can take to reduce the chances of a bear attack.

Deborah Delaney and Jacob L. Bowman of the University of Delaware wrote this article for the Mid-Atlantic region of the US, but their advice is just as applicable to Upstate New York.  Bears can do a great deal of damage to hives and equipment in a short period of time, so it is best to anticipate and prepare for potential problems before bears locate your apiary!
